The Past Week: January 11-17, 2009 (Al Jazeera Hooks up with PBS; House vs. Senate/Obama and Bailout Oversight; “Everyman” Biden; Non-GMO Verification Project; “The Prisoner” is Free; Extra Anatomical Tube Bypass

Looks like Al Jazeera finally is going to get a wider audience in the U.S.  From what I’ve seen of it on the Internet, I’m thinking it’s credible but I AM wondering about the connection to PBS!  Who set up this deal?  Was this just the Bush Administration’s idea or did the hand of Obama get involved somehow? And that the mere mention of NBC….

Al Jazeera Network TV deal broadens U.S. reach

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The Al Jazeera Network plans to announce on Thursday that it has signed a deal to run its news on Worldfocus, a syndicated nightly news program produced in New York and distributed throughout the United States.

(SNIP)

Worldfocus, hosted by former NBC News correspondent Martin Savidge, is produced by New York City public broadcaster WLIW and syndicated to a number of Public Broadcasting Service affiliates, as well as other stations in 60 U.S. markets, including 27 of the top 30.

Al Jazeera declined to disclose terms of the deal.

The service’s Arabic-language network is available in the United States through the DISH Network Corp. It has been trying to increase the distribution of its English- language network through cable television, but so far is available only in Washington, D.C., Toledo, Ohio and Burlington, Vermont.

On Wednesday, Harold Meyerson wrote an op ed piece in the Washington Post on the current financial crisis and had a moment of upset:

The Money-Changers

Wednesday, January 14, 2009; Page A17

…That’s why a bill that Barney Frank is promoting in the House, which would direct banks that choose to take bailout funds to start lending to creditworthy borrowers and designate no less than $40 billion for mortgage relief, is necessary if Congress is to authorize the Treasury to spend another $350 billion on TARP. Over in the Senate, the Democrats seem inclined to think that the need for such legislation is obviated by President-elect Obama‘s promise to administer the TARP in the ways that Frank’s bill would mandate.

If Obama’s appointees inspired sufficient trust that they would be willing to take on the banks, such legislation would be unnecessary. Unfortunately, they don’t.

What? A bit of doubt about Obama’s choices?  But my mind, as simple as it may be, asks this question.  First, what’s going to happen between the House and the Senate?  Seems Rep. Barney is having a sudden bout of  “accountablilty” when it comes to delivering bailout money to borrowers…they should be “creditworthy.”  And  that stipulation has to be within legislation that must be passed to authorize the Treasury to spend more bailout money.  But the Senate is saying “Who needs legislation?  We’ve got OBAMA’S WORD that he’ll do exactly the same thing without the bother of a law.”

So, I then ask myself: if Obama gets his mitts on this money, does it really go to “creditworthy” individuals?  Which individuals?  Will this be “reparation” money? If the recipients are the not “creditworthy” and a lot of them are the same people who couldn’t meet previous mortgages doesn’t this mean that Obama is just repeating the “non-oversight” pattern of the Democrats that helped get us into this MESS we’re in??

OK, the guy they tried to tell us hung out at his local Home Depot (he didn’t) and who’s got his son Beau lined up to glide into the Senate is still being sold to us as “Everyman”??  Oh, PLEASE!  From Silicon Valley’s Mercury News, which picks up this AP nonsense:

Senate veteran, Delaware everyman faces new role

As for the story, it’s the same old same old…

So, do you have any confidence that Obama will do something to remedy this situation?  Wonder if this is even on Tom Daschle’s radar? From the American Association for Health Freedom:

The Non-GMO Project Product Verification Program is Up and Running

The governments of the US and Canada stand in sharp contrast to sixty other countries around the world, including the European Union, Russia, and China, by not requiring foods that contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs) to be so labeled. They do so despite good evidence that GMOs could have negative health implications for humans and the environment, and despite the fact that 87% of American consumers want products that contain GMO ingredients to be labeled.

This week we lost Patrick McGoohan, who was Number 6–“The Prisoner”–in the Village.  I also enjoyed watching him in “Secret Agent” (“Danger Man” in the UK)  when I was  teenager. In fact,  I had a huge crush on him!

And, we can’t forget Ricardo Montalban either, who’s own “village” was on Fantasy Island…

Godpseed…

Ever hear of an “extra anatomical tube bypass”?  Well, my 24-year-old nephew had this surgery on Wednesday. He was born with a congenital defect of the aorta and underwent surgery when he was about 3.  His blood pressure has always been high and the meds have made him tired.  It was now time to make the fix since he’s stopped growing.  Instead of messing with the aorta itself and dealing with possible complications from previous scarring, the procedure used was a “bypass” which eliminates the need to arrest the heart and putting the body into hypothermia.  The surgery went well.  I convinced him to go to a medical hypnotist.  He didn’t need any blood transfusions and today, 3 days after the procedure, he’s only on Tylenol for the pain (which even the day of the surgery he described as being only “soreness”) and the swelling is almost gone. And his blood pressure is better now than ever before and equalized throughout his body.

Congratulations, Mark! You did it!!

  1. Your mentioning Ricardo Montalban made me think of Tatoo and his yelling “the plane, the plane”.

Which made me think of our stupid media and their non-stop coverage of “the train, the train”.

We don’t have a government anymore, we have the latest episode of “Fantasy Island”.

  2. First off, Congratulations to Mark. I always feel better myself when I hear of someone else who has good news from their Dr. And as for meds for blood pressure, I know what you mean. My Dr. increased mine a few weeks ago, and I can barely stay awake long enough to do anything. If you can do without them more power to you.

As for Barney Frank’s bill. If Frank is concerned after his past performance with Freddie Mac, we’d better all take heed. I hope others have sense enough to listen. I didn’t think I’d ever agree with Barney Frank on anything, but in this case I sure do. I wouldn’t trust Obama’s word for anything. Remember all his flip-flops? Get it in writing. Demand oversight. For once I wish Congress would do what it’s paid to do. Look out for the tax payer for a change. That’s our money they’re playing around with.

GMO containing foods should all be labeled. Why would the U.S. and Canada differ from the EU and other countries? I want no GMO altered food on my table, and we should demand the FDA live up to the job they’re paid to do. Trust Tom Daschle to look out for us? Know any more good jokes? Conflict of interest abounds IMO.

  3. Al jazeera inundating America via Public Broadcasting, Barney Frank mucking up the bailout distribution even more, and the FDA hiding genetically altered food components from the populace. All the same week that we see wall-to-wall Obama coverage in preparation of the coronation. We’re also supposed to buy that Joe Biden is really Joe the Plumber, Obama is so brilliant that we can trust him to manage our billions without laws or oversight, and why is it I smell a Hollywood version of the coronation coming, complete with paper cutouts filling the empty seats?

    And so it begins…

  4. I read this article at SavagePolitics.com.:
    2. Will George W. Bush end up being the last true US President? Increasingly, it seems that he just may. As lawsuits against President-elect Barack Hussein Obama—questioning his US citizenship—continue to grow, he ever more adamantly continues his refusal to produce his real, viable and original birth certificate. CONTINUE TO SOURCE

I am amazed that the Canadians are paying attention to this and our MSM are glossing it over!

  5. Marge–I thought of “Tatoo” as well…..but not like you did! LOL!!!
Sadly, he died awhile ago as well…

MG…I looked at the article…people can find it via the blogroll.

Grail…Frank’s bill is actually better than expected..it’s the SENATE and their “trust” of Obama (meaning don’t trust EITHER) that has Meyerson and me worried…..!!!

  6. IA ~ What glorious news for Mark !
And kudos to you for getting him to the hypnotist.

Speaking of hypnotists . . . My own nephew sent me one of the posts about TehOne using mind control. He didn’t know that I had seen it months ago here at IA… I’ll see him today and point him in the direction of IA. Nonetheless, it shows the koolaid is wearing off !

Marge, LOL “the train, the train’…! I don’t watch much teevee, and I really never watched that show. But everytime I hear about “teh Train”, I’m gonna laugh and think about you. Thoughts of you always brings a smile to my face. (I hope they all freeze waiting for “teh train”)

MG ~ I, too, had read the article at SavagePolitics and strangely didn’t have those same thougts re: MSM. They’ve not only glossed over the issue, they’ve perpetuated the myth of TehOne’s amazing rise from the depths of poverty and food stamps to the “leader of the Free World”. When given the opportunity to follow the lede, they’ve said no. Who is behind this blind eye ? That BIlderberger Group owns us now.

Have you ever tried to raise this particular question at any of the MSM sites? The instantaneous flaming of the one who poses the question is astounding.

This may take more words than anyone cares to read…

This morning on the Chicago news: 22 students from one of the poorest neighborhoods were given tickets to the coronation. They are supposed to now become aware that even “someone like obama” raised in circumstances similar to theirs can become a leader and have the influence and impact that he has.

How many of these impoverished students have grandmothers who can send them to the kinds of schools TehOne attended? How many of these kids are ever going to have their futures arranged for them by people of wealth and influence? How many of these kids will have to sell their souls, to make a real deal with the devil?

Maybe more than I’d care to know.

I am reallly afraid for our country. In the backlash of the past 8 years, will we now find ourselves even deeper in hell?

  7. Leslie,

I’ve been preaching the Bilderberger group, the Trilateralists and the Council on Foreign Relations for months now, and few want to listen. I remember your mentioning some time ago that your nephew was sounding out on the Bilderbergers. Would that more of our young set were that perceptive. Don’t expect any help from the MSM. The corporate media is part of this grouip of fiends.

  8. Leslie, Unfortunately I feel that you are right. We will suffer for what the democrats thought of the republicans for the last eight years. obama sold his soul..and everything available to him to the devil. As we saw with the last president…it doesn’t always pay off.

  9. I’m glad your nephew is doing well.

  10. GRL,

If Barney Frank has his fingers in it, there’s a payoff involved. Sorry, but there’s no way I can ever trust that talking lawn gnome again. Follow the money. It leads right back to the Bilderbergers, Tri Laterals, and CFR over and over and over again. If the average person had any clue how much of our daily lives these people control, there would be a revolution. And a well-deserved one, at that!
