Obama Courts “Working Women” in ABQ, NM in Another Closed Event

Obama conducted an “invitation only” visit to ab ABQ, NM Flying Star restaurant Monday to try to shore up his image with women. Specifically, “working women.” I guess he’s interested in the demographic now. It’ll be on to senior citizens next…

I had read that some Obama supporters were miffed that this was another “closed” event…but the reports on the visit didn’t mention that. The blogger at New Mexico for Democracy (part of the DFA, Howard Dean’s organization that has been helping all along) reported that Michael Isikoff from Newsweek was there, which isn’t surprising because Newsweek HEARTS OBAMA. Where was his Newsweek colleague Eleanor Clift? The way she “analyzes” on The McLaughlin Report sounds like she is on the Obama payroll, after all. I would have thought she would have been drooling at the chance to attend this “up close and personal” event.

As reported by the New Mexico Independent:

UNM professor Christine Sierra said Monday’s event was all about Obama’s effort to reach out to women.

“Barack is definitely trying to be fast out of the gate to claim the women supporters who were adamantly for Hillary Clinton,” Sierra said. “He is doing what he needs to do.”

Obama already appears to be doing well with this group, according to a Rasmussen poll released early Monday. It showed Obama leading McCain among women by 12 percent in New Mexico. According to Rasmussen’s national tracking poll, Obama currently leads among women by the same percentage.

Lt. Gov. Diane Denish — who backed Hillary Clinton in the Democratic presidential primary — introduced the Illinois senator to his small audience. Denish was one of the first New Mexico superdelegates to endorse Clinton but has supported Obama since he clinched the Democratic nomination earlier this month.

“The media is making a lot of talk about angry white women,” Denish told the audience of working women. “But they’re right about one thing, we are angry. We haven’t made any progress in the last eight years.”

“We may be angry, but we’re really smart too.”

Denish has jumped on board as if nothing has happened during the primaries, of course. Bill Richardson’s wife Barbara also showed up at the event. By the way, Denish did ads for Harry Teague, now the Democratic nominee in the House raise here in CD-2. She knows him from Hobbs, where they both grew up. Teague, of course, is tight with Republican Steve Pearce because of their oil industry businesses.

And you wonder why I’m unenthusiastic about the election this fall?

  1. Unenthusiastic is more than I can find.

The only thing I can get “enthusiastic” about is working, long term, to bring all these corrupt buzzards down.

I get angry when Republicans are corrupt thugs. I am outraged when Democrats have become the same thing.

Some women may turn their coats and scurry onto the Obama band wagon. This one won’t! And my contempt for those that do is not something I can talk about without using language that got my mouth washed out with soap many years ago.

  2. I am not a statistion but I do not see Obama as being 11-12 % points ahead, I wonfder if he, is could it be because so many people Clinton women (such as myself) have not made up their minds if they really are going to the polls in November. I personally do not see myself voting for someone that I know is not prpared or capable of leading th country properly.

  3. Would have been nice if Denish had not been front and center. However, since Richardson is back in the state, I’m sure she has been told, “This is the way it’s going to be…” I am dubious, dubious, dubious that Obama would take New Mexico IFF he is the Dem. nom. Richardson’s star has definitely lost its luster in the state. He couldn’t even deliver for Kerry four years ago, when he was the big cheese of the convention.

  4. Richardson, the pandering pinhead has lost more than luster. Even among politicians his knife in the back to the Clintons is tawdry.

If he was auditioning for the VP spot I don’t think it worked.

He’s like the guy that you’re seeing who is cheating on his wife. This is someone to trust?

  5. Buenos días, kenoshaMarge

You hit the boards early. I’ve enjoyed reading that Wisconsin wit of yours that has come out the last couple of weeks. I think we go to the same blogs.

Wisconsin is an interesting state politically–who was the former ¿governor? who was a co-founder of Earth Day? I think of the state of having islands of “leftness” in a rightward shifting sea.

  6. Hola ea!

I am one of those early to bed early to rise types. Hasn’t made me healthy, wealthy or wise.

Wisconsin is interesting if you like chaos. Obama’s win here in the primary was given a very large assist by Republicans. That’s not a guess or a rumor, the critters bragged about in the comments section of the Milwaukee JS for days. Also on conservative talk radio. They were dee-lighted to stick a knife into any Clinton. They were too dumb at that time to realize that they had plenty of help from the Democratic Party Leadership and the DNC.

Our former Governor? Do you mean Tommy Thompson? The one who left us so deep in dept that Governor Doyle has spent most of two terms trying to dig us out?

We do have some islands of leftness but I think the sea of red is rising and the islands are growing smaller. Obama’s paster Wrong problem may sink him in Wisconsin. Lots of church going people here don’t much like Paster Wright humping the pulpit and Goddamning America. We’re kinda old fashioned that way.

    1. Contrary to what Obamabots say …
Obama and Hillary were in a dead heat,
when the DNC pressured Hillary into not
only conceding, but campaigning for Obama.
    2. Obama is once again in a dead heat, but now
with McCain, even though Obamabots act like
Obama has already won (like they did in the
primaries against Hillary). So, this means that
half of the Democrats, and all the Republicans
(3/4 of America) dIdn’t want Obama. Plus, he
didn’t even win the popular vote, and refused a
    revote in Michigan and Florida.
    3. Obama has the thinnest resume in politics, and
he won state legislature and Senator by
disqualifications of his opponents, not by earned
    experience, or votes.
    4. Obama’s one claim to fame is being a community
organizer, where he boasts of registering voters.
Then he took their votes away from them, by
disqualifying his opponents on technicalities, prior
    to the election.
    5. Obama’s mentor of 20 years, was an anti-American
racist … not to mention other unsavory associations.
    6. Obama is simply buying the election, since he’s
good at fund raising … hardly a qualification to be
    President of the United States.
    7. The media never vetted Obama, and they are
giving him a free ride, plus more than twice the
print and air time as McCain, as they did against
    8. 90% of blacks are voting for Obama, because he is
black, while the campaign gained ground by
    accusing most opponents of racism.
    9. Obamabots were, and are extremely nasty and sarcastic
towards Hillary supporters, as well as McCain supporters.
    10. Pumas should be applauded for putting country before party …
especially a party that did not represent them, and a party
which highjacked the nomination for Obama.
