Come and Get it! “Idiot Wings” Served Up by Republicans & Democrats…(Update 1X: Lyrics from Stealers Wheel)

~~By InsightAnalytical-GRL

I was driving around on January 20 and happened to hear an ad for Wingstop, with Troy Aikman delivering mouth-watering descriptions of boneless and bone-in chicken wings and all those yummy sauce flavors.

I would have forgotten about that ad, but later on, I happened to hear George Bush addressing an adoring crowd.  My mother had FOX on in her bedroom and there was Bush in Midland, Texas speechifying on the legacy of his Administration.  I picked up one sentence:

…and appointed great judges like Sam Alito!

That was enough of that! But it got me thinking…Inauguration Day, we saw the idiot right wing Republican Party cheering wildly for their loser, while in Washington, D.C., the idiot left wing  was freezing their asses off as they went wild for THEIR loser!  (Of course, most of the people peons in the streets of D.C. probably don’t even know what their politics really are and were just attending “an event” for the hell of it.)

At that point I thought of those chicken wings popped back into my mind, but with a different name.

Idiot wings. That’s what this country just swung between.  You can talk centrism all you want, but right now, we’ve just swung all the way from the idiot right wing to the idiot left wing, at least on the surface. (There’s another “ism” at work, in reality, which starts with an “f” but I was warned by a banker not to use it or else I’d be hauled in by the “authorities.”)

A big portion of the idiot left wing is comprised of “youth,” of course, and according to a site named College Humor,

A picture from CollegeHumor … In Vermont, we like chicken wings and women, especially together.” (nudity)

Now, to see the above picture, you have to register at the site…which I decided to skip!

However, apparently the Hooters Chicken Wings pic is much more “family-friendly.” “Lucas” opined in 2004:

“Hooters Chicken wings really are fresh. Cooked with feathers!”

Wanna see??

Hooters Chicken Wing

Hooters Chicken Wing

(That wing looks more dressed than most of the Hooters females that are on display in that joint.)

I never realized that chicken wings bring out the misogyny in people!  Go here and see if you can spot the blatantly erotic pose of chicken wings (posted by two different people) and one that shows the shoulder blades of a young woman.

Just goes to show you the power of chicken wings, which seem to bring out the idiocy from all sides!

Makes that Wingstop ad seem much less appealing now that I’ve seen both right and left wings all in one day!

To quote Grail Guardian’s comment: “Face it – they’re all just a bunch of wingnuts!”

UPDATE  1

A song started playing in my mind….and here’s the part of the lyric that I heard:

Stuck in the Middle with You

By Stealers Wheel

****
Well I don’t know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain’t right,
I’m so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I’m wondering how I’ll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,

Stuck in the middle with you,
Yes I’m stuck in the middle with you,
Stuck in the middle with you.

I’ll be singing it all day!

Finally, we have some words to reflect on!

We’d like to start with some great snarky quotations from Ambrose Bierce’s classic book, “The Devil’s Dictionary.” According to the booksleeve blurb, the dictionary “was begun in a weekly paper in 1881 and continued on and off until 1906…[and] shows Bierce as one of our great wits, the first American “Black Humorist” and one of most uncompromising satirists…”  And you may know him as the author of “Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” one of the great American short stories.  More from The Ambrose Bierce site:

AMBROSE BIERCE (June 24,1842–?) Ohio-born writer and journalist who vanished in 1913 while attempting to join Pancho Villa in Mexico. Acclaimed for his Civil War and supernatural stories, as well as for his legendary wit, best appreciated by reading his Devil’s Dictionary. Bierce suffered no fools, spared no enemies, and spat in the face of man-made gods and those who prayed to them. His definition of astrology: “The science of making the dupe see stars.” Except for H. L. Mencken, Bierce’s intellectual heir, there’s never been a man of letters like Ambrose Bierce. His fate’s not only a mystery, but he remains an enigma.

Here is some of Bierce that I’ve selected for today!!

Coronation, n. The ceremony of investing a sovereign with the outward and visible signs of divine right to be blown skyhigh with a dynamite bomb.

Corporation, n. An ingenious device for obtaining indivdual profit without individual responsiblity.

Cynic, n. A blackguard whose faulty vision sees things as they are, not as they ought to be. Hence the custom among the Scythians of plucking out a cynic’s eyes to improve his visition.

Delusion, n. The father of a most respectable family, comprising Enthusiasm, Affection, Self-denial, Faith, Hope, Charity and many other goodly sons and daughters.

Liberty, n. One of Imagination’s most precious possessions.

Politics, n. A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles. The conduct of public affairs for private advantage.

Politician, n. An eel in the fundamental mud upon which the super-structure of organized society is reared. When he wriggles he mistakes the agitation of his tail for the trembling of the edifice.  As compared with the statesman, he suffers the disadvantage of being alive.

Presidency, n. The greased pig in the field game of American politics.

President, n. The leading figure in a small group of men of whom–and of whom only–it is positively known that immense numbers of their countrymen did not want any of them for President.

Prevaricator, n. A liar in the caterpillar state.

Revolution, n. In politics, an abrupt change in the form of misgovernment. Specifically, in American history, the substitution of the rule of an Administration for that of a Ministry, whereby the welfare and happiness of the people were advanced a full half-inch. Revolutions are usually accompanied by a considerable effusion of blood, but are accounted worth it–this appraisement being made by beneficiaries whose blood has not the mischance to be shed.

Zeal, n. A certain nervous disorder afflicting the young and inexperienced. A passion that goeth before a sprawl.***

From American Lassie who muses on a couple of  women in power…
THE MORE THINGS CHANGE THE MORE THEY REMAIN THE SAME

My horoscope for Sunday, Jan 18, 2009 said “Reserve some time today to delve into a novel you’ve been dying to crack open”.

It just so happens that I received a book for Christmas that I’ve not taken time to begin reading yet, so I’ll do just that.

The title of the book is “The Other Queen” by Phillipa Gregory.  For those of you who are not yet familiar with her work, she is known as “the Queen of royal fiction”.  Her use of undisputed facts and the use of fiction based on her knowledge of these facts, makes her books a must read for addicts like me) of historical fiction.

“The Other Queen” is the story of Mary, Queen of Scots aka Mary Stuart.

Lately we’ve read a lot about the rivalry and betrayal of women by other women and the misogyny and patriarchy practiced during the past election cycle, but during this period in English History it ran rampant.

Mary, Queen of Scots (1542 – 1587) was the greatest rival of Queen Elizabeth l.  She became Queen of Scots when she was only six days old.  Scotland was ruled by regents during her youth  – including Mary’s mother – Mary of Guise.  Mary Stuart was raised at the French royal court and married the heir to the French throne.  She was left a widow at the age of eighteen.

She returned to Scotland and began her period of personal rule over the country.  She married Henry Darnley, who, like Mary herself, was a descendant of the first Tudor King of England Henry Vll.  After the murder of Lord Darnley, Mary fled to England – supposedly under the protection of Elizabeth l, but actually she was betrayed by Elizabeth and confined for twenty years.  After unsuccessful attempts to re-capture the Scottish throne, and alternating conspiracies against Elizabeth, she was put to death in 1587.  Various accounts have portrayed Mary as a romantic heroine and a martyr for her faith (she tried to seize the throne of England to restore the Catholic faith).  Others portray her as a political simpleton.  Poor Mary.  Throughout her life she seemed to put her trust in the wrong people.

An example of a powerful woman (Elizabeth) being threatened by another powerful woman (Mary).  This period in English history seems to abound with powerful women jealous of other such women.  Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary, Elizabeth’s half sister) was also always jealous of Elizabeth.

Will women ever learn?  Seems not.  I’ve read several books on this rivalry and am anxious to get into this one.  My opinion wavers from time to time as to which cousin (Elizabeth and Mary Stuart were cousins) I sympathize with but I admire them both.  Since I am of Scottish descent, I am always inclined to favor Mary Stuart.

Now on to my reading. This will be a nice departure from today’s world.

And some thoughts from Chicago Correspondent Leslie:

I just thought of something that I am likely to do (besides go on a cooking binge that night). I think I may start tonight  – I’m going to watch as much of “The West Wing” as I can. And if that doesn’t work, I’ll watch “The American President” or “Dave” or “Man of the Year” or even “In the Line of Fire”.  I want to see what a president that I could support, might look like. Or maybe I’ll find the tapes of Hillary Clinton at the debates and watch that. Or maybe, I’ll just curl up with a book and some tea, and read.  That sounds like a good idea.

I just know I cannot watch “history in the making” because it would be just like watching W when he stole the elections.

I didn’t watch those, either.

Throwing Things as We Think of Other Historic Events on January 20th We Don’t Plan to Celebrate (A Joint Post by IA-GRL, Chicago Correspondent Leslie, and Kenosha Marge)

Editor’s Note: Don’t forget to stop by tomorrow for our “Obama-Free Inauguration Day Safe Zone Celebration!”

~~By InsightAnalytical-GRL

As the schlock revs up, I have to share with you my absolute favorite piece of Obama memorabilia that has been shoved at me through the mails.  This one is from the Danbury Mint, that ever-ready exploiter of any event they can think of.

It’s a THROW!

"There are no Red States or Blue States...just the United States."

"There are no Red States or Blue States...just the United States."

It’s a “stunning celeberation of America’s youngest Chief Executive since President John F. Kennedy” and it depicts “five classic images” of Obama.

The 44th President displays his winning smile, emphasizes a point in a speech, campaigns in shirtsleeves, waves to supporters from a podium emblazoned with the memorable campaign slogan “Change We Need,” and shares a warm moment with the new First Lady, his wife, Michelle.

Now, this “luxurious, intricately detailed tapestry woven tribute” doesn’t come with any indication of what it’s made of. Will it fall apart at the first washing? Will it FADE?? Can you even wash it at all or is it going to take you to the cleaners??

Well, I suppose Obamatons will be dying to snuggle up next the their hero with this.  They may have to if they can’t pay their heating bills this winter…

As for me, I won’t be getting one.  Frankly, because the very idea makes me want to “THROW” UP!

Other Historic Events I Don’t Plan to Celebrate

~~By Kenosha Marge

Evidently the Presstitutes who we have been burdened with in this country have maxed out their vocabulary at the H’s. Having discovered that having an African-American, even a half African-American, as President is historic they cannot stop repeating the word. Historic, Historic, Historic until just the sound of the word is enough to send anyone not drinking the Kool-Aid or worshipping the Obamamessiah into spasms of nausea. Here’s a link to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary/Thesaurus to help them look up some new words. http://www.merriam-webster.com/ And perhaps help them to tell the difference between historic and hysterical.

If you are as tired of the continual slobbering by the media over the “historic” In-Ugh-uration of his Oliness as I am perhaps you might want to think on other events that occurred on January 20th to NOT Celebrate.

January 20 1998 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted the Mama and Papas the and Eagles. I really liked the Mamas and the Papas and I love the Eagles. I don’t celebrate.

January 20, 1996 the U.S. Female Figure Skating championship won by Michelle Kwan. Good for Nancy! Still, I don’t celebrate.

January 20, 1989 Bush I inaugurated as 41st president and Dan Quayle becomes 44th vice president. I didn’t celebrate that day either. I hadn’t yet stolen my friend PssttCmere’s term “In Ugh uration” at that time but it certainly described how I felt.

January 20, 1985 Superbowl XIX: San Francisco 49ers beat Miami Dolphins, 38-16 in Stanford. Superbowl MVP: Joe Montana, San Francisco, QB.

Frankly my dears, I didn’t give a damn. I don’t celebrate games. Not even Green Bay Packer Games. As a Wisconsinite it is almost mandatory that you celebrate Packer wins. Although I have been a Packer Fan for over 50 years I am glad when they win, Arm-chair Quarterback when they lose, and then forget about the game. I don’t celebrate games.

The fact that supposed adults prance through the streets bleating that they are #1 in a victory of which they did not participate strikes me as ludicrous. That people celebrate by setting fires, overturning cars and other acts of criminality in celebration of a game is a stupidity I will never understand.

January 20, 1971 John Lennon meets Yoko Ono’s parents in Japan. I will admit that the panting press was nearly hysterical about this event but I alas was not.

January 20,1955 the 1st atomic sub, USS Nautilus, launched at Groton, Connecticut, an event you can celebrate if you like but only if you also have a habit of celebrating events that cost more money that most of us can even understand.

You can read for yourself all about nuclear-submarines if you are interested. Once I read the price tag, ballpark estimate of 2 to 2.5 billion dollars I knew this wasn’t something to celebrate. Just wondering how many of this things we have. http://outthere.whatitcosts.com/nuclear-submarine.htm

January 20,1953 1st live coast-to-coast Inauguration address (Dwight D. Eisenhower) The start of a process by which you cannot get away from the event no matter how hard you try. And I try.

January 20,1952 British army occupies Ismailiya, Suez Canal Zone. That was back before the Brits need our help in its Empire Building.

January 20, 1937 1st Inauguration day on Jan 20th, (held every 4th years there-after)

January 20, 1892 Students at the Springfield, MA YMCA Training School, played the first official basketball game. I don’t celebrate games.

January 20,1869 Elizabeth Cady Stanton becomes 1st woman to testify before Congress. You might wonder why I do not celebrate this historic even as I am and always have been an advocate for women’s rights. And I respond, given that the United States had been a democracy for nearly 100 years, what the hell is there to celebrate that it took that long for a woman to testify before Congress? And a woman’s right to vote was still 51 years in the future. No cause for celebration there.

January 20,1840 Dutch King Willem II crowned. He was personally conservative and no democrat, he acted with sense and moderation. One morning he woke up and said: “I changed from conservative to liberal in one night”. He gave orders to to create a new constitution which included that the Eerste Kamer (Senate) would be elected indirectly by the Provincial States and that the Tweede Kamer (House of Representatives) would be elected directly. Electoral system changed into census suffrage in electoral districts (in 1917 census suffrage was replaced by common suffrage for all men, and districts were replaced by party lists of different political parties), whereby royal power decreased sharply. That constitution is still in effect today. Good for Willem! I hope they have a nice “King Willem II day in Holland.

January 20, 1809 1st U.S. geology book published by William Maclure I know nothing about geology and didn’t know William so although I’m sure it was a very good thing, I don’t celebrate.

January 20, 1800 Napoleon I’s sister Carolina Bonaparte marries King Joachim Murat of Naples. This marriage might have been fruitful (4 kiddies) but it didn’t end well.   Caroline fled to the Austrian Empire when her husband was executed. Caroline seems to have been a reprehensible character who caused much misery for others in her never-ending quest for power. One of her direct descendants is the American actor Rene Auberjonois.

January 20, 1788 Pioneer African Baptist church organizes in Savannah, GA

January 20, 1785 Samuel Ellis advertises to sell Oyster Island (Ellis Island), no takers. Guess all the bargain hunters were out of town.

January 20,1783 Hostilities cease in Revolutionary War. I always find it somewhat disconcerting that we celebrate the beginnings of war, and that we all know, or should know that 1776 was when the war begin but don’t know when it ended.

January 20, 1667 Treaty of Andrussovo ends 13 year war between Poland and Russia. Ending a war is always a good thing. But to be perfectly honest I didn’t even know about the beginning of this war until today. So I’m just glad it only took them 13 years to stop killing each other. Especially when you know there are Wars named the 100 Years War.

January 20,1613 Peace of Knarod ends War of Kalmar between Denmark and Sweden. Ending a war, once again a good thing of which I wasn’t aware. If I’d been around I’m sure I would have been overjoyed.

January 20, 1503 Casa de Contratacion (Board of Trade) founded in Spain to deal with American affairs.

January 20,1265 1st English Parliament called into session by Earl of Leicester

January 20, 473 is the day St. Euthymius, the Great died. If you didn’t know, I’m sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings. St. Euthymius, the Great, was a humble abbot in Palestine whose miraculous cure of a Saracen chief made him famous.

A miracle cure? Now, THAT’S something to celebrate!

Women in Power: The Example of Prime Ministers in Bangladesh, “A No-Casserole Zone”

~~By InsightAnalytical-GRL

As Inauguration Day draws closer, many of us are still feeling very angry and insulted. Even though most of us were not naive about politics before the 2008 primary season began, we still were in for a shock on  two fronts. First, the utter corruption of the Democratic Party, once our “safe haven,” became painfully clear. Second, and related to this, was how the party saw their hand-picked candidate introduce misogyny, as well as race, into the campaign and didn’t make any moves to stop it. Not that the leadership even wanted to…

So, many of us feel that Hillary Clinton, even if she weren’t the first choice of some, still was badly treated and was “robbed” of the nomination.  Later, Clinton decided to stay and play with the boys, which was very disappointing. On the Republican side, Sarah Palin was trashed just to be trashed and suddenly the only person on either ticket with long executive experience wasn’t “qualified” ; and she was undermined by factions in her party as well.

So here we are in the United States, with so many of us not feeling fine about the status of women these days.   Many of us who have been in this fight since the 60′s see things slipping away, while many women and girls, along with the media and many men, either don’t get it or if they do, are just willing to accept a disdainful, hollow man as President rather than a more experienced, tough, fighting woman.

(As an aside…seeing the Roland Burris debacle unfolding, you can almost understand why Hillary Clinton wanted out of the Senate. I wish she hadn’t decided to stay in the game as Secretary of State, but it’s clear that Harry Reid et al will stop at nothing when it comes to getting “their” people in…and Clinton is not “theirs.”)

Which brings us to another thing to ponder.  We’ve seen NOW and NARAL cave, and we’ve witnessed Nancy Pelosi in action.  We  may speculate that once women reach a certain level, they’re in a power game and they forget where they come from and play the game alongside the men in the same way.  And this includes undermining other women.  It may be that they’re jealous of the power they’ve gained, fearful of losing it to a rival,  or may it’s just what’s in their own characters.  Whatever is going on, it’s clear that just because a woman gains power, there’s no guarantee that they will be any different from men in power. The media may try to undercut women in power with hints that they are “emotional” or “weak” but anybody watching can see these women are playing the power game no-holds barred.

As an example, let’s take a look at recent events in Bangladesh. Bangladesh, one of the world’s poorest countries and one of the most politically corrupt, had an election on December 29, 2008.  For the last two years the country has been controlled by a caretaker government backed by the military which was installed  to try to bring stability to the country and stop political violence.

According to the BBC’s Q & A published before the election (Q & A: Bangladesh Election,December 17, 2008):

The two main parties competing for power are the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and the Awami League of Sheikh Hasina – also a former prime minister…Between them the two women – bitter personal enemies – have alternated from government to opposition for most of the last two decades….both Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia have been detained during the last two years on corruption charges along with dozens of other top political and business leaders. Many fear that the character clash between the women – reflected among their respective sets of supporters – means that their mutual rivalry will overshadow the pressing problems the country faces.

Prime Ministers Zia (L) and Hasina (R)

Sheikh Hasina Wazed won a landslide victory on December 29th, marking her second election as Prime Minister. According to Reuters, “Security remained tight across Bangladesh and police were on alert for attacks by Islamist militants as the army-backed interim authorities prepared to hand over to civilian rule….Strikes, street violence and attacks by militants trying to turn Muslim-majority Bangladesh into an Islamic state based on sharia, Islamic law, have hampered past Bangladeshi governments.”

Today, January 7th, Hasini has been sworn in as Prime Minister (Hasina emerges with a change)

Her charter for change, which includes building of a “digital Bangladesh”, drew public attention, particularly of the young generation, which was finally reflected in the battle of ballots, observed political analysts. Her promise of change also reflected in the formation of the cabinet as she appointed young and fresh people.

The restraint in her speech attacks on her political rivals won her popularity in the run up to the election. Her call upon all political parties to shun politics of confrontation, and to develop a healthy political culture for building a prosperous country, also earned her public kudos.

We’ll see.  Hasini’s rival, Khaleda Zia ,who was the first woman prime minister elected in Bangladesh, initially vowed to work with Hasini even though she stood by her charges of voting fraud, but has already revived the bitter rivalry.

From The Daily Star (Bangladesh), January 7, 2009:

AL’s journey for ‘change’ started thru’ killing Says Khaleda

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday came down heavily on new Awami League (AL)-led government, saying that it has started its journey towards “change” through killing, snatching and criminal activities across the country.

(SNIP)

“You’re observing what is happening across the country. Does it mean change? Do people want it?” Khaleda made the remarks after visiting the bereaved family members of Nazrul Islam, a leader of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, who was killed in the city’s Bijoynagar area on Monday.

(SNIP)

Khaleda, who didn’t attend the oath taking ceremony of Sheikh Hasina and her cabinet, demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the killing.

Both these women have been jailed and both have been either threatened with exile or actually exiled. In Zia’s case, corrupt relatives have fled the country (elder son, Tarique Rahman, still awaiting trial). Observers believe that there will never be political peace in Bangladesh as long as these two women are on the scene.

All this reminds me of Benazir Bhutto’s history in Pakistan, which probably shouldn’t be a surpise as Bangladesh was once part of Pakistan. Like  Bhutto,  Hansini comes from a political family; she is the daughter of Bangladesh’s first prime minister.  Zia is the widow of the assassinated Maj. Gen. Zia ur-Rahman (assassinated in a failed coup attempt in 1981); she has also been elected to the office of prime minister twice.  As with Bhutto, corruption is the name of the game when it comes to these political rivals.

So, while lots of people mourn the demise of Hillary Clinton’s bid for the Presidency, the reality is that while being a woman in power does make a statement, it’s not always the statement we dream of.  In the meantime, let’s see how Pelosi, Clinton, and other women in the Obama Universe operate. We already know what Pelosi is capable of.

And let’s see long Sheikh Hasini lasts…THIS time around…

Not everyone can be in Washington, DC to witness the historic
Inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama.  If you can’t be in the
nation’s capital, why not celebrate this event with other supporters and
friends right here in the President’s hometown?  We will be toasting
Barack Obama’s swearing-in on the evening of January 20th, 2009 at the
Skyline Ballroom in McCormick Place — and you are invited!

We here at IA, of course, have our own party planned…which ties in nicely with the PUMA Bawl!  If  you want to take a break from the festivities there, maybe to go to the ladies’ or gents’ room or to vomit in private, please stop by IA, where we will be an entirely OBAMA-FREE SAFE ZONE!!

We’ll be offering up a lovely selection of soothing pictures of sunny NM skies, mountains, and loving animals– as well as perhaps some other goodies–to help offer a place to work off all that partying !

And, if any other PUMAs who stop by care to announce their OWN plans, please DO provide a link and a brief description if possible in the comment section and we will gladly post them here at IA on Inauguration Day!!

SO, MARK YOUR CALENDARS and plan to drop by on the big day!!!
