Why Obama Doesn’t Want Clinton Democrats

~~By Grail Guardian

It’s 44 days until the General Election as I write this and after a long and hard fought primary season the Democratic Party, and the Obama campaign specifically, are still unable to get over their terminal case of CDS. I can’t help but ask “Why”? For the uninitiated, CDS stands for Clinton Derangement Syndrome, usually defined as the uncontrollable impulse to rail against all things Clinton (Hillary, Bill, Chelsea, Hillary’s supporters, and basically anything connected to centrist positions).

Team Obama not only masterminded the overthrow of the Democratic Party to form the “New Democrats” (remember the May 31, 2008 coup when all semblance of the rules were overthrown at a behind-closed-doors meeting of the Rules and Bylaws Committee), they literally declared the nomination belonged to Obama despite the fact that:

Clinton suspended her own campaign, as she had promised during the primaries she began to campaign for Obama, she asked her fundraisers to jump to Team Obama, and eventually Clinton herself served as the conduit to end her historic campaign by interrupting a roll call vote at the convention to ask for Obama’s nomination by acclaim. Yet still the Oborg continues to harass Clinton supporters. Team O bloggers continue to infiltrate web sites that had been pro-Clinton. Commenters continue to compare John McCain and Sarah Plain to Clinton, who they now conveniently claim as one of their own. Web sites continue to be hijacked and crashed. The Main Stream Media continues to fawn over Obama as messiah, ignore every negative story posted about him on the Internet, and call anyone disagreeing with their views a racist. And Middle Class voters continue to be insulted, marginalized, and discounted.

So at this late juncture, one must ask why it is that so many of the Oborg continue to fight dirty against the moderate, centrist voters that refuse to support Obama, rather than to sensibly go after them? After all, Obama went after the right wing and evangelical voters with his votes on FISA and promises to continue funding George W. Bush’s Faith Based Initiative, so why not court the center? It only makes good political sense that once the cries of “you have no where else to go” and “you’ll fall in line eventually” were obviously falling on deaf ears that the next move would be to go after this significant voting bloc with gusto and speed. But with just over 6 weeks left, the taunting and harassment continues unabated.

So let’s look at the possibilities:

American Media Shills for Obama

~~By kenosha Marge

Has the time finally come when ordinary citizens stop listening to the drivel coming from the mouths of multi-millionaire pundits? Have we really gotten mad as hell and aren’t going to take it any more?

Going back as far as William Randolph Hearst it is easy to see that media moguls were always about money and power, not journalism. It was in fact Hurst’s engaging in a bitter circulation war with Joseph Pulitzer‘s New York World which led to the creation of “yellow journalism“–sensationalized stories of dubious veracity.

There was a time between Hearst and the Current Millionaire Media Morons that infest our newspapers and airwaves today when some actual journalism occurred.

Having been raised with the Huntley-Brinkley Report and Walter Cronkite what passes for journalism these days is wretched. Certainly Edward R. Murrow, must be spinning in his grave knowing that a hack like Keith Olbermann, is using his signature line, “Good Night and Good Luck”.

It is interesting that Murrow gave a speech before the Radio and Television News Directors Association in Chicago in which he blasted TV’s emphasis on entertainment and commercialism at the expense of public service. That was on October 15, 1958. I suspect he would be appalled to see how far down that road the media has traveled.

Today’s media gives us such stalwarts as Charlie Gibson of ABC who sneered his way through an interrogation disguised as an interview. Gibson tried to embarrass and demean Governor Sarah Palin. Instead he embarrassed himself and the occupation he represents so poorly. We really aren’t interested in whether you like Governor Palin or not Charlie, we just expect you, as a professional to conduct an interview that allows us to make our own decisions based on what WE perceive to be the truth. Your opinion Charlie is irrelevant.

This election cycle, like many before has shown us a media increasingly less interested in reporting the news than in making it. We expected that the Clinton-hating media would attack her relentlessly without regard for truth, fairness or integrity. We didn’t expect their blatant misogyny and their slobbering preference for Obama. There wasn’t even a pretense of fair coverage.

Now John McCain is being treated in the same way. Must be a surprise for him since he is used to being the media darling. He is learning that media, like jackdaws, are attracted to the newest shiniest object to enter their sphere.

Oprah Winfrey had the honesty to admit being an Obama acolyte. She is just a talk show hostess so her opinion is just that, her opinion. She might better occupy her time recommending Diets or Authors but then she’s missed a few times on those issues too.

Chris Matthews is a silly, sexist, twit. Had Matthews forthrightly admitted to being in the tank for Obama you might at least have respected his honesty. His pretense of being neutral was absurd. The tingle up his leg is probably a sign of poor circulation and not enough blood getting to his brain.

The list of Obama fans in the press is nearly endless. Eugene Robinson, E.J. Dionne, and Chris Cillizza are press agents for the Washington Post. Like many papers its circulation is dropping and will likely continue to drop as readers find themselves faced with fewer journalists and a proliferation of cheerleaders.  Were it not for Dana Priest and Thomas E. Ricks the Post wouldn’t be worth reading.

Frank Rich, and Bob Herbert love them some Obama for the New York Times. The Times should no longer be allowed to proclaim itself a newspaper of record. Professional and unbiased? Were it not for Paul Krugman the current Times would only be useful for the bottom of my parrot cage.

Only on the right is Obama not fawned over like the second coming. Even there he isn’t pummeled with the fervor to which a democrat is typically subjected. If Corporate Left and Corporate Right likes someone, that someone might not be the best choice for all us little peons out here that don’t have media contracts worth millions.

Our media has decided that they want Obama to be president. In pursuit of their wish that such a thing come to pass they are willing to slime anyone, tell any lie, spin a few words into something unrecognizable as from the truth and show us their true, corporate colors. There may be a few, a very few, honest, decent, hardworking journalists around. But real Journalists don’t work on cable “news” programs and they seldom show up on the pages of the top newspapers in the country. Like common sense, integrity and honesty are becoming less common all the time.

MSNBC has become the Obama network. I believe the “M” stands for misogynistic. CNN has become the loving Obama all the time network. CNN was once a respected news channel. Now there is more blather than news and more opinion than fact. Jumped the shark a while back. FOX, to everyone’s surprise has been the most unbiased of the 3 cable “news” network. Whoever would have believed that would come to pass?

Few people respect or believe media. Seven out of 10 voters (69%) are convinced that reporters try to help the candidate they want to win, and this year by a nearly five-to-one margin voters believe they are trying to help Obama. What does that say about how voters view the integrity of the media?

As if the misbehavior of the media were not enough they sneer down their exfoliated noses at the rabble for being “low information” voters. They do not do their job to inform us, then insult and demean us for NOT being informed.

Who, what, when, why and where as journalistic ideology? Gone with the snows of yesteryear…

“Flat Earth News” The State of ‘Churnalism'”

~~by InsightAnalytical-GRL

While listening to the BBC World Service months ago, I heard an interview with author Nick Davies, an acclaimed investigative reporter from Britain (see bio below). Davies, who had written a book entitled “Flat Earth News” (published in February 2008) lambasted the present state of journalism. In the book, Davies “exposes falsehood, distortion and propaganda in the global media.” Check out his website of the same name.

The part of the interview that has stayed with me these many months was his discussion of what Davies calls “churnalism.” If you scan the reaction by the journalists who have commented on the book, you’ll see the frustration of many of them who have experienced the process of taking press releases that have been rehashed and passed off as real news gathering and those who have been forced to rely on “automated news-sifting services” because they are no longer given the time to investigate stories or check their facts. In other words, as one comments, most news “isn’t original anymore.”

A video of a more recent interview with Davies on “churnalism” is available here at the BBC site and is well-worth watching!

Here’s a synopsis of the book from Davies’ site:

“Finally I was forced to admit that I work in a corrupted profession.” When award-winning journalist Nick Davies decided to break Fleet Street’s unwritten rule by investigating his own colleagues, he found that the business of truth had been slowly subverted by the mass production of ignorance.

Working with a network of off-the-record sources, Davies uncovered the story of the prestigious Sunday newspaper which allowed the CIA and MI6 to plant fiction in its columns; the daily newsroom where senior reporters casually refer to ‘nig nogs’ and where executives routinely reject stories about black people; the respected quality paper which was so desperate for scoops that it hired a conman to set up a front company to entrap senior political figures. He found papers supporting law and order while paying cash bribes to bent detectives and hiring private investigators to steal information.

Davies names names and exposes the national news stories which turn out to be pseudo events manufactured by the PR industry and the global news stories which prove to be fiction generated by a new machinery of international propaganda.

He shows the impact of this on a world where media consumers believe a mass of stories which, in truth, are as false as the idea that the Earth is flat - from the millennium bug to the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, tainting government policy, perverting popular belief.

He presents a new model for understanding news. With the help of researchers from Cardiff University, who ran a ground-breaking analysis of the contents and sources for our daily news, Davies found most reporters most of the time are not allowed to dig up stories or check their facts – a profession corrupted at the core.

Read All About It. The news will never look the same again.

An extract from the book is here.

Needless to say, this book has raised the hackles of many in the established media.  A paperback edition will be published in early 2009.

Check out Nick Davies’ site for updated posts on recent media distortions and for many links about the book and reactions to it, as well as media-monitoring sites, including:

The Myth of the Grief-Stricken Hillary Democrats

~~Posted by kenosha Marge

I’ve watched goshwoggled as the left Blogs, Corporate Media and Obamacrats have perpetuated the myth that PUMA and other disaffected Democrats/Liberals are nothing more than disappointed Clinton Democrats who simply refuse to go through their stages of grief and move on. The “Just Get Over It” crowd is so busypromoting what they think the problem is that they have no idea what is the problem. Or more likely they do know and won’t accept/admit that it is “their” actions that have caused the problem not the angry citizens.

Most of Senator Clinton’s supporters have long since moved on. They are angry about what was done to Senator Clinton by the Democratic Party, the DNC and the Corporate Media. They are angry about corruption and lies. They are angry about misogyny within the Democratic Party, the DNC and the Corporate Media. They are enraged by the constant drumbeat of requests for them to “get over” their disappointment and get back in line. They are also enraged over it being suggested that they are somehow not “good” Democrats if they don’t just do  as they are told.

The problem with that perception by the Democratic Party, the DNC and the Corporate Media is that the disaffection and anger is not about Senator Clinton per se. It is about the process used against her. It is about deceit and corruption. It is about insults to her and her supporters. Only a few stubborn holdouts still cling to the illusion that somehow, someway she will get on that ticket. The rest, the majority, have moved on. They’ve moved on to believing that as Democrats, as Americans, and as decent citizens they shouldn’t accept what has been done.

I was a supporter of Senator Clinton. I liked her fighting spirit, her wonkiness, her pragmatism and her intellect. I voted for her and was proud and happy to do so. I have cast too many votes in too many primaries for people I didn’t much like and certainly didn’t trust.

When it became clear to me that the Democratic Party, the Corrupt DNC and the horrendously corrupt Corporate Media would not allow her to win I was angry. I’m still angry. Anyone that values honestly, ethics and fair play should be angry too. If you are one that believes the end justifies the means then you may notgive a hoot how things are accomplished so long as they are accomplished. You may think that all that matters is that a Democrat sits in the Oval Office. That attitude is the antithesis of all that I hold dear and all that I believe.

I say, long, loud and often that I cannot and will not support the Democratic Party ticket in November. Obama is a cheat and a liar and I will not vote for him. The days when I held my nose and voted for any critter with a “D” after his/her name are gone.

I wouldn’t vote for any ticket that included Joe Biden under any circumstances. I remember when Joe Biden was Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee to confirm Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court. No woman that witnessed the ravaging of Anita Hill while Biden sat idly by should ever forget or forgive the travesty that happened on his watch. That he ended up voting against Thomas means nothing. Professor Hill may someday forgive him. I will not.

The so-called “Clinton Democrats” might better now be called the Anti-Corruption Democrats and let us not forget the newly energized Feminist Democrats. I have waited a long time to see the women”s movement rise from the dead.

There are many reasons that the Democratic Party is not and will not be as “unified” as the powers that be like to pretend. Being “disappointed” or “grief-stricken” over the loss/theft of Senator Clinton in the primary is a myth. It”s also just one more in a very long list of insults hurled at those that refuse to jump on the Band Wagon or toe the party line.

There was a time when political parties tried to entice voters. This new tactic of dismissing and insulting them seems more than a little dimwitted. But that”s just the opinion of one disappointed old woman crying in her herbal tea. Pfft!

ETHICS, My Aunt Fanny…

~~Posted by kenoshaMarge

(Note: This piece was written before Stephanie Tubbs Jones passed away.)

While doing some research on another topic on Congresspedia I found a link to a section on ethics and ethics training schedules.

I find it amazing that people who have been elected to the Senate or to the House of Representatives, the two highest legislative branches of our government, would need Ethics Training. However if you follow this link it will take you to the Committee On Standards of Official Conduct website. You will find their training calendar. And if the training didn’t take the first time on 8/15/2008 they can come back on09/19/08 to try again.

Unless you haven’t been paying attention or if you have been paying attention to anything that issues forth from the Corporate Media, you may believe that politicians who care about what is best for their country run our government.

You may even believe that they have at heart the best interests of the people they were elected to represent. See here

What is really sad, IMHO, is that so many really smart people, people with integrity themselves find the lack of integrity in politicians acceptable; the “pols will be pols” attitude that I find reprehensible. Reprehensible in that by accepting that “pols will be pols” you enable their bad behavior.

Don’t want you folks teaching my children or training my dog. (Caution, do not click on this link if infected with prudery.)

Unfortunately ethical behavior in Washington D.C. is most effectively defined by which party is being discussed. Democrats are appalled at unethical behavior by Republicans and Republicans are equally aghast at the same lack of ethical standards in Democrats. Perhaps once you become a politician some invisible being swooped in and scooped out honesty and integrity and replaced it with a heapin’-helpin’ of hypocrisy.

Ethical behavior in media is an endangered species. Greed replaced integrity long ago and mammoth paychecks for mediocrities are SOP. Corporate media doesn’t want an informed citizenry. An informed citizenry would see through their carefully scripted disinformation to the public. An informed citizenry would say no thanks to their blather and go play with the kids, talk to their spouse, read a book or any activity that could be done without the strident tones of a pundidiot ringing in their ears.

Media that could not even be honest about something as simple as fireworks at the Beijing Olympics suggests that everything else they do and say may be tainted as well.

We all know people in our lives that are chronic liars. I know several. One I have known for over 40 years. She lied then, she lies now and you can’t believe a freaking thing the woman says. I feel the same way about Corporate Media. Ethics from them? Pffft!

Granted some politicians are more ethical than others. The sad fact is that 100% ethical, honest people that speak the truth and let the cards fall where they may, wouldn’t be elected to the house or the senate. For which we, the public are to blame. Many of us will excuse any aberration in a candidate from “our” party and will nitpick a candidate from the opposing party to death. Thus our ethical behavior is corrupted too. Once we start making excuses we are part of the problem.

These are difficult times for decent people. We need to dig deep and find that honest core. Or we become them. And that is unacceptable. Just as their lack of honesty and integrity are unacceptable. Ethical training sessions at the congressional level? Unbelievable.

In the last verse of one of my favorite John Cougar Mellencamp songs it says:

Sister

She’s got a lot of pride

You can see it when she walks into the room

But she’s young

And she’s unaware

Of what a brutal world can do to you

So she loves a man

He lies like a dog

Tears her little world all apart

So the walls go up

For the rest of her days

And there ain’t no man can touch this girl’s heart

Here’s a link to the lyrics if you’re interested and a link to the song if you’re a Mellencamp fan.

I may not be young and unaware, but substitute party, as in political party for the word man in the last line and that’s where I am today. I want people in office that don’t “need” ethical training sessions when they have reached the level of elected office that sends them to Washington D.C.

I will vote on issues, actions and integrity not on party, personality, gender, race, or most vacuous of all, charisma. Ethical behavior, sigh, should be a given.

Note: This is in no way meant as a slam at those that serve on the ethics committee. In the congress we can at least rejoice that Stephanie Tubbs Jones is in charge to trying to instill what she has in abundance in those who are not so equipped. Ditto the Senate where Barbara Boxer has this thankless task.

Enabling Bad Behavior…

INSIGHTANALYTICAL WELCOMES kenosha MARGE!

A big WELCOME to kenoshaMarge, who is honoring this blog with her first contribution!  KM has “known” me since the old Buzzflash days and managed to find her way here after my hasty departure from that site during the primary season. I’m so glad we’re “together again” and I hope visitors will enjoy reading her thoughts.  (She’s from the “North Country” and I’m in the Southwest, so it will be interesting to perhaps see different perspectives.) She’ll be posting when she gets the inspiration to get something out there…

AGAIN, WELCOME kenoshaMarge!!

ENABLING BAD BEHAVIOR

Many voters are like parents who will not accept that their offspring might do bad things. Such parents will go to any lengths to convince themselves and others that little Johnny/Janie would never do drugs, have sex, lie, steal, or cheat.

Voters that believe that “their”party would never do bad things while demonizing the “other”party are like those close-minded parents. Denying a problem ensures that the behavior will not change. Not with kids and not with political parties.

I believed for most of my life that the Democratic Party was “better”than the Republican Party. I believed that because I thought Democrats stood for the things that I believed in, the things that were important to me. I thought they would fight for those things. That was back before I saw that Democrats would fight for nothing except re-election and their COLA.

The Republican Party wasn’t a comfortable fit for me except about fiscal responsibility. That was before Republicans decided to agree with the Democrats about fiscal responsibility. Such bi-partisanship goes to show that whenever two parties agree about something it doesn’t necessarily work out well in the long run. In fact, usually bi-partisanship means that both parties screw the public instead of one or the other.

For the last 6 months I have watched the party I always supported in dismay. Why are they undermining all they supposedly ever stood for? Any remarks they now make about Republican corruption will be like Madonna accusing another female of sluttish behavior.

The Democratic Party in their arrogance has let this get so far out of hand that nothing they do now will satisfy everyone in their party. Thus nothing will unify it. They broke it, now they own it. Millions of average Americans will pay the price as they always do.
