Thanks to Kenosha Marge for bringing this story to our attention! According to the Telegraph (U.K.), an advisor in this Administration is giving Sharia Law a free pass.
President Barack Obama’s adviser on Muslim affairs, Dalia Mogahed, has provoked controversy by appearing on a British television show hosted by a member of an extremist group to talk about Sharia Law.

Miss Mogahed, appointed to the President’s Council on Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships, said the Western view of Sharia was “oversimplified” and the majority of women around the world associate it with “gender justice”.
The White House adviser made the remarks on a London-based TV discussion programme hosted by Ibtihal Bsis, a member of the extremist Hizb ut Tahrir party.
Where to begin?
First, an appearance with the leader of an extremist group is disturbing. I don’t know how an extremist leader gets to host a show on British television, but then again, I didn’t get it when Sharia Law was given an entree into the British legal system awhile back. (See our previous post on this subject: While Hillary and Sarah Get Trashed in the U.S., Muslim Women in Britain Get Sharia Law).
And I certainly don’t get someone from the Administration showing up…oh, but, for this Administration it shouldn’t be a shock at all. By the way, Hizb ut Tahrir had a meeting in suburban Chicago this past July (See: Chicago Suburb Hosts Hizb ut-Tahrir Conference; Organization Aims to Re-Establish an International Islamic State (Caliphate), Supports Jihad).
Then there’s the matter of this “Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships” which is a continuation of George W. Bush’s old White House setup on steroids. I didn’t like it when Bush set it up and I certainly don’t like it now. And, of course, we saw it coming during the primaries, so I’ve been nursing this disgust for a long time.
Then there’s the signal of this crowd’s attitude toward women that continues to be less than great.
And, this latest salvo comes from a woman.
What’s up with this willingness by “liberal” women to sell out women? We saw it with Ms. Magazine and all many female Democrats during the primaries. Supposedly NOW chose a woman to head the organization who iss ready for a fight, but I haven’t heard a peep out of her, have you?
The article has a few doozies from Mogahed, but this pretty much says it all:
Miss Mogahed admitted that even many Muslims associated Sharia with “maximum criminal punishments” and “laws that… to many people seem unequal to women,” but added: “Part of the reason that there is this perception of Sharia is because Sharia is not well understood and Islam as a faith is not well understood.”
Mogahed was born in Egypt and, according to the piece, “Her appointment was seen as a sign of the Obama administration’s determination to reach out to the Muslim world.”
And does “reaching out” mean ignoring the abuses women face under Sharia?
One more thing. Mogahed is “executive director of the Gallup Center for Muslim Studies, a project which aims to scientifically sample public opinion in the Muslim world.”
Disclaimer: I worked as a study director for Gallup years ago when it was still a family business. It’s since been sold and I’ve detailed it’s current objectives in an earlier post (See: Musings on Pollsters: Confessions of a Former Gallup Study Director…(Updated 2X).
Read the entire piece. The Treasury is already training people on the subject of Sharia finance (See: The SCANNER-Politics 11/7/08: Newsweek Editors on Charlie Rose in the SCARIEST Description of Obama So Far…(Video/Partially Transcripted); Sharia Hits the Treasury Department/HARVARD Alert!; Hill the Shill (UPDATE 1X) and Sharia Finance: Rapidly Increasing Inroads Via American Banks…With the Help of Our Treasury Department).
